James A. Michener Papers and Special Collections

ÍøÆسԹÏ

The James A. Michener Papers and Special Collections were created in 1978. That year, Michener donated 37 linear feet of his papers to the ÍøÆسԹÏ. The papers were primarily related to his novel Centennial, published in 1974.

Shortly before his death in 1997, he designated the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï to be the home of his writing and publishing legacy.

The Michener collection now consists of nearly 900 linear feet of materials. These include:

  • Research notes
  • Manuscripts
  • Galley proofs
  • Correspondence
  • Field notebooks, maps, photographs and slides he collected while writing his novels.
