offers a wide range of training opportunities for doctoral interns. Interns are typically assigned to a primary school placement, elementary, middle, or high school, where they provide comprehensive psychological services. Core experiences include individual and group therapy, psychological assessment, consultation, crisis intervention, functional behavioral assessment, and behavior-support planning.

Training at D6 is collaborative and individualized, with supervisors working closely with interns to support their professional development. The internship schedule includes one day each week for specialized rotations that complement interns’ primary placements and provide focused training experiences; rotation offerings vary by year, with recent examples including BrainSTEPS and Child Find. Whenever possible, we align primary placements with interns’ professional interests, providing opportunities to collaborate with the multidisciplinary teams supporting specialized district programs, such as Intensive Autism, the Specialized Behavior Program, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or Life Skills. Our goal is to help interns build competence and confidence as they transition from doctoral students to entry-level professional psychologists.

Intern Experience

There is a wealth of training opportunities at D6 for interns including, but not limited to, individual and group psychotherapy, psychological and neuropsychological assessment, functional behavioral assessment, behavior support plan development and implementation, consultation, crisis intervention, and professional development. As part of the internship experience, interns provide psychological services at an elementary school, middle, or high school.

Additionally, supervisors work collaboratively with interns to provide opportunities to meet their individual training needs and goals, which are agreed to at the beginning of internship and adjusted as needed throughout the year.  This may include working with specialized programs (intensive autism, affective behavior, deaf and hard of hearing, and life skills); district teams (BrainSTEPS, crisis intervention, preschool, and transition 18-21); professional development; and supervision. We strive to support our interns as they progress in their development and become more independent in their competencies.
